Thick or thin

Making Choices in Your Vocal Tone: You can control how your voice sounds.

As a singer, you have more control over your sound than you might realize. Of course, you can change volume — singing louder or softer — but the real difference often comes down to one thing: your intention.

How you approach a tone makes all the difference.
Are you singing with your thicker vocal folds? That produces a full, powerful sound.
Or are you using your thinner vocal folds? That creates a smaller, lighter tone — not necessarily softer, just different in color.

Here’s a helpful tip for the thinner approach: try a slightly 'childlike' approach to your tone. Imagine the way a kindergarten teacher speaks — friendly, light, and a bit exaggerated. Not whisper-soft, but thinner and clearer in tone.

In short: again, it’s not just about loud or soft, high or low, t’s about how you shape your sound.
Here I give you an example by singing Row row row the boat and Let it be.

Vocal Tip; Play with consonants & vowels to shape your sound. Pay attention to where you place your focus:
Emphasize the consonants, and approach the notes with a light, playful touch — almost like a kindergarten teacher. This gives your sound a bright, airy quality.
Shift your focus to the vowels, and sing them actively and intentionally. You'll notice your voice sounds fuller, rounder, and more powerful.
