Stop thinking, start singing
Singing is 80% Mindset
I say it all the time, because it’s true: singing is 80% mindset.
Now, that might sound a bit contradictory… If it’s all about mindset, shouldn’t you be thinking? But here’s the thing: when it comes to singing, the real skill is learning to let go.
You’re not supposed to think.
You’re supposed to feel.
The moment you start overthinking, you lose the connection, with yourself and with the music. You get stuck in your head, trying to control everything. But singing isn’t about control. It’s about freedom, courage, and trusting yourself.
Yes, technique matters, absolutely. But that’s what your training is for. You work on your technique before you sing. When it’s time to perform, the only thing you focus on is what’s happening in your body.
What do you feel in your breath, your belly, your chest, your voice?
I notice it myself: when I work out, my mind often drifts to everyday things. But when I use my voice, it’s different. I can quiet my mind and connect to my body. That’s where the real magic happens.
So, what’s the takeaway?
Train hard, so you can let go.
Singing with emotion starts with solid preparation, so when you sing, you can be completely free.
That’s the goal: to sing freely, with feeling.
