Mixed voice

Dear SING!ers – heads up! Why do I find the term Mixed Voice' so misleading?

I keep repeating this because it’s that important to understand: 'Mixed Voice' is a confusing term – and honestly, it doesn’t even make physical sense.

You can’t physically mix your chest voice with your head voice. Your natural tone simply doesn’t blend with falsetto. It’s anatomically impossible.

What is possible, is using intentional technique to keep your sound full in the higher range. That might mean tilting your larynx or choosing a belt approach. These are conscious vocal decisions – not some magical hybrid.

That’s why I struggle with the term 'Mixed Voice.' It creates an illusion that often leads singers down the wrong path.

I hope this helps you see why this matters – and empowers you to make smarter, more deliberate vocal choices in that crucial transition area.
Don’t try to mix – choose!
