Switching gears

Discover the Power of Falsetto, and learn to switch effortlessly!

Falsetto remains one of the most fascinating tools in vocal technique. Being able to switch smoothly between your original voice (chest voice) and falsetto opens up a world of expressive possibilities for any singer.

Across genres, from country to pop, this switch is used intentionally to add emotion, dynamics, and color to a performance.

Think of artists like Ilse DeLange and Dolly Parton, who often use that signature falsetto "cry" in country music. You’ll hear it just as clearly in pop music too, listen to Chappell Roan, Dua Lipa, or Sam Smith. Even classics like Zombie by The Cranberries show just how powerful quick falsetto shifts can be.

The good news? You can train this skill! One fun and effective way is with my yodel exercise. So: deep breath, voice on, yodalaheeeeeteeeeee! Let’s go!
